Finale Ligure

Italy

Finale is situated on the Mediterranean coast near Savona and certainly belongs amongst Italy’s most popular sport climbing crags. It is a huge area of over 10 square km of crags and nearly 3000 routes, which offers climbing of great quality and variety too. The rock there is marine white limestone and the landscape is beautiful although slightly uncommon for sport crags as it is very harsh and green. A small disadvantage of the area is that it is very popular with tourists and therefore at times it is very crowded and also some areas are too close to motorways.

In Finale you will find a great variety of climbing styles to choose from; smooth slabs, vertical walls as well as steep overhangs. You have a great choice of grades there too, from 4's to 8's but the majority of the lines will be within the 6th and lower 7th grade. No matter what grade you climb though, get ready for some good technical climbing! There are mainly single-pitch routes but if you suddenly feel like longer routes you can always visit Bric pianarella – Finale's 'big wall' with routes up to 250m long.

Finale provides crags of all directions which makes it possible to climb there throughout the year but you get the best climbing conditions in most of the crags is Spring and Autumn. In Winter the main problem is that the weather can be quite unpredictable.

As mentioned above, Finale is located on the Mediterranean coast and naturally is a popular tourist destination, which is an advantage when it comes to accommodation. You can really choose from all kinds of facilities according to your taste.

It is very easy to get there as it takes only 30 minutes to drive from Genova international airport but as it is a big area you will appreciate renting a car to get around.
