Chamonix

This mountain village is definitely one of the best places in the world for many outdoor activities such as mountaineering, trad climbing and skiing. It is often referred to as the Capital of world climbing and it really has a lot to offer. Chamonix means superb granite rock and gneiss set in stunning scenery of high mountains. The village is dominated by Mont Blanc, the highest mountain of the Alps, which rises 4808m above sea level so naturally, climbing in Chamonix guarantees an authentic Alpine experience. To access many of the classic routes, you have to cross a glacier and the routes themselves require more commitment than ordinary trad climbs so the trip is rather suitable for clients with some previous experience.

Chamonix is not famous only for granite cracks and fine slabs of the Mont Blanc massif, but also for the lower and sunnier gneiss of Aguillle Rouges.

Obviously in the Alps, one has to be careful about the weather but on the other hand, the crags in Chamonix are at very different altitudes which gives you the option to choose the most suitable crag depending on the time of the year. Nevertheless, the best season is summertime when the days are long and when even the higher crags are snow free. Lower down in the nearby valleys, there are some areas with easy access where you can climb later into the autumn.

Chamonix is a great destination not only for trad climbers and high mountain lovers but also for those who prefer sport climbing or bouldering. From Le Fayet all the way to Switzerland, there are several valleys which are snow free from late spring and offer good quality sport climbing. Climbing on these crags, you can choose from a wide range of grades and lines. The rock here is somewhat peculiar because it is a mixture between granite and granter greiss . Yo can go for single pitch sport routes as well as well as equipped multipitches.

If you feel like bouldering, in Chamonix is also the right place for you. There are great boulder problems scattered around the area, some of them isolated and some of them gathered in circuits like in Fontainebleau. The rock is of great variety: from high mountain limestone in places such as Le Col de la Colombiere to granite in e.g. Les Bossons and superb quality greiss boulders in Medonnet area.

The boulder areas are located at different altitudes so you can come almost whenever you like and choose the most suitable boulder zone according to the weather.
