Ceüse

Ceüse undoubtedly belongs among the best sport climbing crags in Europe. It is a great wall in a magical settings close to the Alps at an altitude over 1600 m. This makes it a perfect summer destination for all sport climbers who are willing to hike a little more than they usually do. The walk up takes a little more then one hour and just adds to all that makes Ceüse a very special place. After the hike you feel more worthy of the privilege of climbing in these great surroundings with these beautiful views. 

Climbing in Ceüse is very varied depending on the sector; from long pumpy climbs on big jugs such as those in La Cascade through long stamina routes (Berlin) to steep technical climbs in e.g  Demi Lune. Ceüse rock is awesome, luckily for all of us who love climbing, it is full of pockets. There are around 350 climbs which range from 5 to 9a+. However, the majority are the 7th grade  and the grading there is tough. Ceüse is not an ordinary sport climbing crag, similarly to Gorges de Tarn, it is well-known for its well-spaced bolts, which along with the settings add a special atmosphere to each climb, making it an unforgettable experience!

The best season is from late spring to early autumn. The variety of climbing allows you to choose the sun or the shade depending on the weather conditions. However, as with anywhere else in this area summers are very hot.

Most climbers stay at the convenient and economical Les Guerins campsite located right at the base of the hill. There is also an option of a free-camping area right below the hill close to the campsite and its little grocery shop. However, as it has no shade it can be quite uncomfortable on hot days. If you wish a bit more luxury there are many guesthouses in driving distance from the area.    

Ceüse is situated less than an hour drive from Gap in Sothern France, an area full of climbing crags. To get there you can fly to Grenoble, Marseille, Turin or Nimes. From all these airports it’s less then 2 hours drive to get to Ceüse.
